Arthur Hutchinson started work as a 14 year old pit lad at New Stubbin Colliery before joining the South Yorkshire Mines Drainage Committee in 1937.
He worked there for 10 years before moving away to Wentworth Drift Mine and Hoober Colliery, the fomer of which was set up by former SYMDC engineer Harold Saul.
However, he later returned to the Mines Drainage in 1963 from where he retired in 1977.

His son Clive also worked at the Mines Drainage Unit as an electrician based at Westfield House, Rawmarsh.
