May Days
Wet weekends are nothing new, but they do tend to rankle when they delay planned activities, and especially so when the sun somehow managed to shine late into the dying light of the working week. The Friends can wait another week to get back on site for some more socially-distanced outdoor maintenance work.
Meanwhile, back home sheltering from the downpour, the Friends and volunteers made good use of some extra hours of research and writing for our Heritage Lottery Fund Hemingfield’s Hidden History project, and some went for a wander around Hemingfield and Elsecar…
Seeking shelter, Open Day 26th October 2019
The rainclouds hung heavily overhead during the morning. Ever-optimistic, the Friends arrived on site, opened up the gates, and skipped over the puddles to get on with a list of tasks before the worst of the cold and miserable weather set in.

Springing into action
The Friends of Hemingfield Colliery and volunteers assembled on site at Hemingfield on Saturday, on the cusp of the vernal equinox, marking the official start of Spring. The morning was grey, with no sun shining through, though the cold edge to the air was soon seen off as the crew got to grips with the working party tasks. Continue reading
